Books I Am Interested In

[Confederate Outlaw]

I am interested in finding out if anyone has read "Shadow Of The Sentinel" by Warren Getler and Bob Brewer. I just recently finished this book and it is very interesting to me. I would love to discuss the possibility of hidden Confederate gold and appease the mind with the unknown. Also, I have recently (6 months ago) purchased "Nathan Bedford Forrest's Biography" by Jack Hurst and I think highly of General Forrest. I would be interested in discussing this book as well if any one here has kowledge of it. Finally, I have "The Essential Writtings of Jefferson Davis" edited by William J Cooper, Jr. I would LOVE to discuss this book or conversation concerning President Davis in general. If there are existing threads on any of these fine people of our Confederacy already in existence I could join in on, I would love to get in on it. I enjoy teasing the mind with alternative possibilities outside normal thinking patterns of book tought knowledge. I enjoy conspiracy theories as well as cold hard facts. I like to broaden my mind of my own accord at times just to open up the possibilities of unforeseen or unknown theories. I hope I can entertain you with my sometimes outlandish concept of those things unknown and you will at times maybe go along for the ride and maybe rethink your facts.

Have you read the Forrest bio yet and if so do tell more. He is on my "to do" list.

No sir, I haven't yet read his bio in its entirity. However, I do have some general knowledge of him just from exposure to the endulgance of Civil War era history. I believe he was a brilliant stratagist and was underestimated in his time. I will read the book very soon and will elaborate on it upon my completion of it.

For some reason I preffered Wills work above all the others.

As to Davis... I will leave my opinion of both Jeff Davis's alone. Frankly, neither was half the man or half the soldier of Forrest.

There is an entire thread in the A-Z dedicated to Davis quotes. Might find some useful info there and please feel free to contribute more as you see fit.

My pops read "Shadow Of The Sentinal" and said it was great. I need to read it, just need to finish my John Wilkes Booth book("American Brutus")then Forrest is next!

Some great references to other books on Forrest. Thanks! Sounds like you admire the man as well. As to your opinion concerning Davis to Forrest - I agree. Davis was very friend oriented and Forrest was just trying get the job done. I believe if all the Generals and soldiers had the heart and mind of Forrest I would be in the Confederate States of America Army and I would be on the Texas border right now.
