I have finished the DiaryTranscript/Context book that I was writing from my husband's GGGrandfather's diary. I cannot say how much this forum helped me, but in fact I did give credit to those individuals who helped by giving me answers to particular questions. I had it published by Mixbooks as it is a record for our family history, not meant to be available outside (that means there is no published bibliography, just a few credits). I'm not sure those from this site who indicated they would be interested in reading it when I first posted here could last through the reading; however, if you want to take a look, I can give you access if you send me your e-mail. Please note that you will most likely receive notice, do you want to purchase, which I am sure you will not! For those interested, Caswell Haddock was a private/corporal in 38th Illinois infantry company E who was killed December 31 at the Battle of Stones River. I will confess, this diary is something that only a Civil War Mother could love, but I am happy to share.

Think it could be enlightening, as well as interesting, to learn about the innermost experiences of individual participants in these events, to gain a fuller understanding and deeper appreciation of what occurred in the past.

Perhaps you could post one or a few select extracts as tidbits of information to possibly encourage any potential readers to investigate further the personal thoughts (and emotions) of this ancestor.

Congratulations!!

It's tough. Mine took 5 years - working during the winter and hot summer months. I leaned a lot about publishing and wouldn't trade that knowledge for much else. I am starting my second but seriously doubt I ll get it published. It's definitely a labor of love and i now have a greater appreciation for everyone that writes the manuscript, regardless if they published it or not.

To all of you, I truly appreciate your kind remarks. Writing this book turned out to be not a labor of love but a journey of learning that was guided by Caswell's diary. Printing it was not difficult. Mixbooks, similar to Shutterfly books, but is easy to work with. When you're finished, you press a button, write a check, and voila! You can get an idea of how this works by looking at the pages I am posting at the suggestion of Nathan Stuart. I didn't get the pages in order here--sorry.
