Thought some of you may be interested in this book. It is written by Brett Gibbons who owns Paper Cartridges on Baltimore St. in Gettysburg. He has really gotten into the weeds here on the development of percussion rifles and the minie ball in Europe.
The Lorenz was the third most used infantry rifle in the war behind the Springfield and the Enfield. His book focuses on the Lorenz in Europe, including it becoming a scapegoat in the Austro-Prussian War. While it doesn't focus on the Civil War, it certainly applies.
I am only about 75 pages in but the research is darn good.
