Citation: After his command had been forced to fall back, Second Lieutenant Beyer remained alone on the line of battle, caring for his wounded comrades and carrying one of them to a place of safety.

Died: September 24, 1907 (aged 69)

Burial Place: Lower Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Eagleville, Pennsylvania

Additional Notes: He enlisted and was mustered into Company A, 90th Pennsylvania as Sergeant in September 1861, and was soon commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in Company H to date from 1 September. After Battle of Antietam, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in November 1863, but not mustered at that rank. He was honorably discharged 26 November 1864, at the end of 3 years' service.
