Bate was an excellent brigade commander, showing his mettle at Chickamauga. However, his record at division command is quite spotty. It is on his front where the collapse at Missionary Ridge began; two of his brigade assaulted McPherson's Army without orders and unsupported at Dallas; his division swung off course at Peachtree Creek and saw little action. Utoy Creek was his big success, and he nearly captured the Columbia Pike at Spring Hill, if he hadn't been ordered by Cheatham to halt. His division was decimated at Franklin, with around 1500 men remaining to fight at Nashville, where, due to poor positiioning on Shy's Hill, was overrun and essentially destroyed. One brigade of georgians under his command, after the campaign, requested to be transferred to another division, more out of aversion to Bate's harshness to his troops.

I think the actual 2nd Tennessee Infantry Regiment was a Union Unit, his Confederate unit was the 2nd Regiment Tennessee Infantry,or was it called the 2nd Infantry Regiment Provisional Army?

there were 2 Confederate 2nd Tennessee's. Bate's was 2nd Tennessee Provisional Army, the other was Walker's Irish 2nd Tennessee (later the 5th Confederate Regiment).
