It is a classic. Some one widely considered very knowledgeable once compared my book The Civil War Musket to Coates & Thomas Intro to Civil War Small Arms and I considered it quite a compliment, high praise indeed. By all means pick it up. It is worth having just for the chart in the back showing which troops were issued what arms....and they did it in an interesting way, they list the arm then all the units known to have been issued it.

I got a used copy in perfect condition for 40 cents so it sounds like a steal

Can't go wrong with Dean Thomas titles.
His son James is rather accomplished in the field as well.

Maybe just go straight to the source and help contribute to future publications?
