Does anyone know the approximate velocities and muzzle energy of the old BP .22 shorts?

I'm going to take a swag that it was around 600 fps max. and probably less. The .22 has a small case capacity plus it's being shot from a short barreled revolver. This pistol was a personal defense weapon to be used at a distance where you could smell your assailant's breath.

It appears to be a colt "new line" .22 revolver, produced between 1873-1877. Very nice gun!

Couple of my lovely ladies, the A&W side hammer of the discussion, and a Marquis of Lorne by Hood in .32 rimfire, both with original ivory grips. I made ammo for the .32, I'm sure I can do it for the .22

Gotten myself a real fascination for the period pocket revolvers and single shots as of late, love my double shotguns n muskets and cap n ball revolvers, but these lil guys just have a captivating charm to 'em

Ah . . . the classic .22 caliber.

Of all my rifles, that's my favorite. ( I own three models and I like all of em' better than my Remington .30-06 )

I love those little 22's.
They are so fun for target practice.
The Ruger 10-22 is by far my favorite.

I don't reload my own ammo, but I can't imaging reloading a .22 round.

Heck, I didn't even realize .22's even existed back then.
I thought they came out during the 20th century.

I have a model 1873 Winchester .22 cal. short whose serial # shows it to be made in 1890. The '73s were rare in this caliber, relatively heavy because of the standard diameter barrel and small bore.
