Making some confederate .5778 teats and .574 Williams type 3 today cannot wait for my mold to arrive so I can make Gardner bullets!!

This is a Boxer(Pritchett) variant used in English cartridges in .550 caliber for .58 cal rifles.

Nice looking bullets. Casting is one of my favorite pastimes. Whose molds are you using? What alloy are you using for casting the Williams' bases? Are you using zinc washers with them ?

Brooks molds and I use a hard lead for the plunger works just as good as zinc plus zinc is too expensive
The hard lead is just mixed with tin I have it special mixed to match the consistency too zinc

Those look great! I have trouble with my .580 mold letting go of the bottom piece and my Whitworth mold I haven t been able to get even one good casting. My .44 round nose molds work well and my .54 in line plug conical mold does also.
I need molds for my .54 Sharp's 1863 carbine and a .577 Enfield '53. I don't know if my Le Mat needs a special mold.

Always cast 2-3 thousandths of a inch below bore size and smoke the inside of your mold with a lighter
You have to keep your lead at 900-1000 degrease and keep your mold hot

Well there are a couple good tips. Below bore size? You mean get molds that are a bit below bore size?

Yes 2-3 thousandths of an inch under the bite size so these .5778 are for .580 bore then a .574 in the historic size for the .577 bore or for enfield it can vary as you wrap with paper

I must get a bore guage. I have so many pistols of differing makers that there is bound to be differences. I guess they specs for common makers are on line. Its the one off manufacturers that Im worried about. One brass .44 Navy has a manufacturer or importer that doesn't google up. With soft lead I might get a ring as I push down the loading plunger with some of them. I have a few different boxes of .44 round ball. Its those pesky musket rounds that can be so different.

Try .454 or .457 diameter bullet with a .430 heel

I'd like to get a smooth sided pritchett mold for the .577 Enfield. The minie one I use (PH) works well though.

Castboolits.gunloads is a good site if you haven't been there.

Find discussions on bore size etc. All guns bore size vary. Regardless of model or make. Tooling wear etc. if you really get into it. Need to find exactly what you'd bore size is. True with modern cartridges also. Might be a little different than you would imagine. Something you force down the bore is different. Unless you are blowing something 1600fps or higher. Gas checks aren't needed. Heavy large boolits don't get there usually.

wow those are pretty! I cast out of a lyman currently and they are nice but not that nice
