1860 Spencer carbine

I recently acquired a Spencer 1860 carbine serial number 31503. As I'm new to Spencer's, I was hoping some knowledgeable person on this forum who have access to the books that might have info on this carbine. Thank you for your time.

If you drop the breach and shine light into the bore, you might get a decent pic of the rifling and overall condition.

Might also need a third hand helper to set up that iphone camera shot.

The hammer is a model 1860 hammer, and the rear sight (from the side view) looks like a model 1860 sight. Is the bottom of the loading tube (the part visible when inserted into the buttstock) smooth? And, what's the length of the barrel, measuring from the back of the chamber, to muzzle?

Excellent.
The 22 inch barrel shows it is a model 1860 Spencer, and the rear sight and hammer are Model 1860 parts. The loading tube's grooves are a later model feature, but these tubes interchanged. The slight bevels on the top center of the frame (the edges of the slot where the action pivots into) were made when this was refurbished after the Civil War for post-war cavalry use, and the loading tube might have been switched at that time, too.

Central Ohio a bit west of Columbus. I grew up in Madison county which was a center of cattle ranching in the years before the War and a gathering area for cattle and livestock drives to New York, Baltimore and other parts of the east coast. Now Bill Gates is trying to "raise" solar power there
