1853 Enfield

This is a recent auction purchase - a Birmingham-made 1853 Enfield with the Confederate "captured and collected" Q stamp ahead of the trigger guard. There are very few markings on this rifle, and the bluing on the barrel was removed long ago. It may have been done at a Confederate arsenal, and the stock may have been scraped as well. The nipple protector appears to be an original that (based on the thickness of the leather) was added later and never compressed by dry firing. The sling is old as well, but not as old as the rifle, and I suspect it's from a Snider or Martini-Henry. I would value the thoughts of any Enfield collectors here.

Welcome from the Fort Sumter and the Fredericksburg forums.

Nice Enfield. Here's mine:

Love those beetle holes in the stock, just signs of honest age and no one tried to cover them up!
I once owned an Enfield that had spent decades in a Florida attic, and it was so eaten up that my wife made me have it inspected by a pest control guy before she would let me bring it inside.
I also see yours is a Barnett, a great maker
