Ammo Sabot??

Thank you very much; I'm pleased that you've found it of use.

Once upon a time there was a spot on this site where one could post articles and it was hidden away there but that feature is gone now. It's not something I can just post on a thread. Whenever I happen to see where somebody says they're newly interested in field artillery I offer them a copy - and some have accepted - so it has got around a little bit. I've edited it and expanded it several times since I wrote the original, partly based on comments I've received.

I have fantasized about somehow publishing it on the internet somewhere but I don't have a clue how that might be accomplished. I'm certainly not going to try and develop my own web site just for that. I'm not really very tech savvy (or attracted to such) so I guess it'll just remain one of my little pet projects.
I think it would be a great idea. Especially with added photos or drawings. I would buy it, and i am sure others would.

Thank you again, sir. Photos and illustrations gets complicated as one needs permission to use them (and likely would have to pay). For my purposes, too, it would make the document quite a bit longer. If I were interested in marketing it (which I'm not; really just want to share) I'd probably also have to footnote it which would be a serious chore. So, unless somebody with a web site just pops up and says "gimme a copy and I'll post it" I'll just keep doling them out one at a time when asked.

I wish I knew more about web sites. All I have is a Facebook page and I am not sure it can be done there. Someone hear must have one.

Well with your permission i will share it with a reenactment group that I was thinking of joining.

Permission granted. If you do I'd be interested in any comments. I've tried very hard to be factually correct and have had a number of reviewers but I wouldn't be surprised if I misstated something somewhere or that it could be made more clear.

A sabot, and I've used these, is simply a smaller than usual projectile with a jacket that falls away in flight.
Basically, it's like being able to fire a 32 in a 45 barrel. It flies faster and carries more penetrating power than a standard round due to having the same power concentrated into a smaller projectile.
I think that's about it. Oh, but we still use them in tanks, to kill other armour with.
Now, I think that's it.

Not to mention that on the big shells you have to drive to pick them up as they can't be shipped. I had to drive to Memphis one time for a few 100lbers and I know at @redbob has had to drive to pickup some as well. PLEASE don't get him started on UPS.

All that they had to do was get a 100# Brooke Shell from Chicago to Birmingham and they didn't even have to get off of I-65, so how do you manage to misplace something like that? If I had known how this was going to turn out, I would have driven to Chicago to pick it up and had some Chicago Deep Dish Pizza to boot.
