Beard kinda looks like P.T. Beauregard
Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard. whew
(And one of the few who could rock a kepi!)Ben McCullough? Really? It doesn't look like him to me. Here's the photo from The Confederate General:
Definitely not Cleburne, though.View attachment 9659
(I have to be nice to her--I was once engaged to her son, who's since died.....urgh.....so I can't just come out and go...."Look, Joyce, it's not the same guy!" I thought perhaps if I could figure it out definitively, I could just name the guy and leave it at that.
Obviously our Texas barbers weren't as skilled....
Huge W. W. Blackford fan right here. Great memoirs, cool dude.I didn't know that any else one knew who the Blackford boys were.

Yeah, I don't know what her deal is but that's totally not Cleburne. Cleburne had much coarser features in addition to being more swarthy, black Irish as they used to call it, like my grandfather. Admittedly I had no idea it was McCulloch, but it sure isn't Cleburne.and this elderly UDC schoolteacher is just convinced it's Patrick Cleburne..who I know it's not.

Looking at his "old" photo, it certainly could resemble him as a younger man. Argh.Yeah, I don't know what her deal is but that's totally not Cleburne. I need to look!Looks like the real version of the idealized guy in the OP. That IS some kind of painting or drawing, not a photograph, and as such, it's got some artistic license going on; McCulloch is being shown at his best. Look at the shape of the nose. That really gives it away. I'm convinced now.Expired Image Removed
Definitely Ben. Taken from a photo in civilian clothes. LOC provenance.

I've started a Facebook war.....who is the guy below, and how do you know?
