I've started a Facebook war.....who is the guy below, and how do you know?

Ms. Hale is forbidden to answer--yet.

Ben McCullough? According to William C. Davis' The Confederate General, Vol. 4, there are no images of McCullough in uniform because he never owned a Confederate uniform. His profile was written by Thomas W. Cutrer, says: "McCullough never owned a uniform and at the time of his death was wearing a black velvet suit." p. 119

I believe there is a photograph of McCullough in Generals in Gray... but he doesn't look the same as the posted print.

It looks like an engraving - sometimes they'd put a uniform on over the civvies. There's a famous one of a white-haired Forrest in his Confederate uniform - the original picture actually shows him in a business suit. He never wore the Confederate uniform after the war until they buried him in it.

Some really, really good guesses here! Uh, I actually thought about one of the Blackfords, so I guess great minds think alike.

It's supposed to be Ben McCulloch. True, he never had his photo taken in uniform, and it really doesn't look like him...but I decided to make him my facebook avatar for a while -- to celebrate the new year in McCulloch County, so to speak....and this elderly UDC schoolteacher is just convinced it's Patrick Cleburne..who I know it's not.

So I was wondering--is this just a mixup and it's someone else, or, has has been suggested (and was what I thought) they just said, "Hey, let's put a uniform on what we think Ben would look like!"

I'm not giving in to her, however.....it's NOT Pat! (Ms. Hale was also involved in the itty bitty skirmish over the identity, so I didn't want her giving it away!)

Well, shall we go for cousins, then? How about Robert, or Robert A? One was known as "Black Bob" and the other as "White Bob". (Forgot which was which, though!)

Ben McCullough? Really? It doesn't look like him to me. Here's the photo from The Confederate General:
Definitely not Cleburne, though.
