I recently picked up another Whitney 55/61 derivative "high hump" to add to my collection. This one is of his second batch, unlike the one Tim Prince had for sale on his site. It seems the second batch derivatives used surplus/condemned '55 stocks, iron nose caps instead of pewter, a swelled ramrod which deviates from Moller's description in Volume 3. This is the fourth or fifth one like this I have encountered in doing hands on and photographic research. Because of the scarcity of these pieces, who knows how many are in private hands and secured away in safes, etc never to see light of day. My reason for posting is to show you the quality (or lack thereof) of some of his "Good & Serviceable" lockplates he aquired from Springfield and used on his muskets.
Pictures are of a SA '55 lockplate, a Whitney copy of the '55, and two "high hump" derivatives.
