As late as 1864 Arsenals were still dovetailing as shown in the unbelievable find at Cold Harbor, a crate with all rounds and caps still extant, recovered in the late 1990's, this was the subject of an article in the North South Trader magazine. As I recall they found the remains of the wagon, traces and mules, that went over the side of the Chickahominy bridge, possibly struck by artillery fire. The water and swamp preserved the find.
