Absolutely. I wouldn't let that fly either as a former mover... I mean relocation specialist.

I´ve always preferred to pack light and carry what I would have marched in with. Uniform, gun and traps, knapsack and haversack. Like most reenactors, I like a tent to myself, so I do bring in both halves of the shelter tent. My concession to modernity is that in the last few years I´ve brought a really good self inflating mattress, and, in early or late season events, my rated to 10 below mummy bag goes too. No event is improved by my freezing at night, and at the end of the event, I have to get in something that weighs more than a dahlgren gun and navigate it down the road past hundreds of idiots doing the same thing. I am a musician, so my violin and guitar are going to go along, too, if it´s the kind of event which the typical schedule.

With the exception of the 1½ year I lived in the greater Copenhagen area I always travel for 3-5 hours by train...

That limit me to what I can carry. If Iam traveling directly to and from the event I often travel in uniform with my gear in a modern backpack.

(Event in 2022 where I did bring two muskets... and yes, two sets of brogans. one set in the modern bag)


I no longer bring a musket, and have one of the 3 I own held by one of the other members. Who then bring it.
Sometimes I use a camping bed and modern sleeping bag others I don't. Depend on the event and time of year and so on.
but I do sleep better on some hay under my greatcoat in summer than I do on a camping bed...

At the last 2nd sleswig war event I had a modern bag for the gear and to carry something for the trip, but other than that the only modern things where my cleaning kit.(beside phone, wallet and a book)
Since the musket I use is stored at one of the other members I do need to be able to clean it fully when we are done.

If I can't carry it in my knapsack/blanket roll, haversack, or on my belt I don't bring it. If it's an event where parking is reasonably close, I'll bring some extras to leave in the car. Usually foodstuffs, extra ammo, my greatcoat, and an extra blanket.

This is the basic for me. Canteen with water, haversack for set of utensils, keys, cellphone, wallet & Bible for church service. The cup on the outside is for an offered cup of coffee and a spare cup in case there is food involved. If it gets too hot maybe a frozen hankerchief that soon turns to a warm one. All cannoneers accessories (gauntlets, thumb stall, tools - vent brush, pliers, pick and prime gear, leather oh ho the list goes on with inplements (worm, dry and wet sponge, ramrod) primers and most important- the round.

A poncho would have been nice but cumbersome if we had to move the piece.

Again i am a minimalist and we should all give our captains a hand.
