I've had this piece for many years, but no one has ever been able to tell me if it's an original or a reenactment?!

This looks good. It has the correct format inspector stampings and makers mark. The stitching is not a clean white like many reproductions. The rivets also appear correct and the box is missing its wool insert. Very common to have that missing. There are different variations as far as shape and markings. Some don't have any markings while earlier ones have a small US on them with no rivets, just stitching. On average in minty condition $225 range but sometimes even higher. The average cost for most encountered is less.
