Attended Washington College until dropping out to join Army​
After the War he studied in Germany​

Civil War Career:

Served in the Confederate Navy, spending most of his time quarantined due to the Yellow Fever break out​
Served in the First Virginia Artillery Battalion just before Appomattox​

Occupation after War:

Mining Engineer in Germany just before Franco – Prussian War​
Served in the Prussian Army during the Franco – Prussian War​
1871: Served with Gallantry during Occupation of France​
1873: Returned to the United States Settling in Utah​
Attempted to find work as Mining Engineer in Salt Lake City​
1879 – 1883: Surveyor for United States Interior Department​

Died: September 1, 1883

Place of Death: New Mexico

Cause of Death: Drank Contaminated Water

Age at time of Death: 35 years old

Burial Place: South End Cemetery, East Hampton, New York
