I always like things that add humanity to Lee. He gets stuck with this grave, humorless reputation and it just wasn't so. There were a lot of quirky people in either army, Lee was no exception.

I found this quote today, and I can't help but agree.

Anyone found any others?

Apparently, Lee said that to Mary Chestnut, so I´l accept that as authentic. He had a dry and subtle sense of humor. Look up the letter he sent his daughter from Petersburg regarding her pet squirell. It´s very funny including comments on his grey uniform and advice not to bring him around the army because they might eat him. The delivery is splendid.

I have a book that's on his personal papers,
Reading The Man I think its called. He did have a fine sense of humor.

There is a particular ribald and not family friendly joke from a wedding.
