I really am confused as heck. "Texan Army Camp"...............is that supposed to be Gonzales? Mountains? In Gonzales? It's a virtual swamp, people! Spanish moss, alligators, green grass and the whole nine yards. And who is this black woman? And what were the chickens doing in Santa Anna's tent? Or whose tent was it?



I think Bill Paxton's Texas citizenship should be revoked.

I watched the first episode tonight......typical History Channel...at least Ice Road Truckers has some authenticity but little history. I do not know too much about Texas history but I just don't buy the survivors of the Alamo and "The Yellow Rose" mixing up with Indians (Kiowas) Mexican and Tex ans coming to the rescue. I did like "Deef Smith" though.

I didn't watch, but about 50 Facebook friends, many of them reenactors and/or historians, have declared it garbage in every way.

Is it true that one scene had Santa Anna feeding his own blood to chickens?

Haven't seen it, but the newspaper review I read basically dam ned it with faint praise.

I know very little about the 'Texian' war for independence-- is the business about the 'Yellow Rose of Texas' being an actual woman legit, legendary, or made up for the miniseries?

Didn't watch it, review I read was very mediocre. Past minis from History have been 6 hours this one is 10 and the first point of the review was they should have stuck til 6.

I might binge watch it if it comes on netflix.

Like most things that come out these days......little to no historical value. Will just have to watch it for pure entertainment purposes I guess.

Take a close look at the firing squad scene about 27-28 seconds into the preview. A Mexican soldier brings his musket up to his shoulder and prepares to fire--except the frizzen on his flintlock is open.

The Intro-mercial said she was real but nobody knows enough about her actual role other than that her pass port was found in Santa Anna's camp at San Jacinto. She was a free person of color from Conn who came to Texas as an indentured servant. All the rest is speculation.

well, for all the negatives, I forsee that tv is going to declare it a hit. didn't nitpick it to death..didn't pay attention to mexican firing squad or kiowa horses, or whatever else...I too liked Deef...that's about it. the courtmartial was comical...the two boys vying for the young lady too was funny...everything else....It's the H Ch...go figure....

The cast is awesome. The story--definitely not so much. That two hours dragged and dragged and dragged last night. I seriously doubt that I watch any more of it.
