OK, I have to weigh in against the conspiracy theory and in favor of Occam's Razor. Houston did not go to the aid of the Alamo garrison because he did not have the manpower. If a thing costs $5000, throwing $500 at it is not going to get you that thing. It is a simple numbers game. Houston was not stupid. Moving east brought the potential fight closer to US territory and made it ever so much more likely that US forces would lend a hand. Which, if the Ft Jessup thing is true, is exactly what happened.
There's no evidence Houston and Crockett hated one another or that Houston would sacrifice the garrison to rid himself of a potential future political opponent. Bowie was also in the fort and he and Houston were tight.
