Springfield 1816, odd configuration.

Sun was too bright perhaps. Couldn't see the screen well enough to center photos. Great consistent patina except for the left side of the breech/Tang where someone scrubbed the metal to create contrast on the stamps and dates. Pity. But for $150 I'm happy.View attachment 259534
For $150, you should go to jail for stealing that. Nice! Is it full length or a cut down?

BBurkett, the barrel measures 29.75" (75.56cm) . Which seems short for a weapon from this period. There is a bayonet lug which tells me that if this is an altered weapon it was done at an armory at least. Weren't there some Danish units that used short barrelled weapons as a specialized tactical doctrine for quick manouvering and rapid close quarters reloading? Sort of highly mobile massed volley units?

Indeed, fantastic for 150 @Scrubby , and nice collection @BBurkett , interesting thread.
Ha. Yes, I was pleased. The shopkeeper. "Has my number" as the old saying goes. He offers me ridiculous layaway terms (of which my sweet wife remains ignorant) and knows me for an easy sale on old random stuff. He gave some other poor bastard $100 for the thing and made $50 off the books. It is the Way of the Gun Life perhaps.

Do you happen to have a full length picture or at least one showing from the muzzle down? You've piqued my interest with it being shortened

I have about 40 CW muskets without being a dealer. Been collecting 10 yrs or so. Here are a few that are displayed..

BBurkett, thanks for the lovely photos. Never get tired of pictures of old guns! Like I said, the OA length from breechplug to muzzle is 29.75" and the distance between the band 1 and 2 (with sling attachment) is about 5.75", and from 2nd to nose cone/band ( not entirely sure of the nomenclature here..) is about 6.5". There is the appearance of a front sight having once been cast as part of the reaward band on the nose cone, but it has been nearly filed away to nothing. You can see the bayonet lug there though, yes?
