The 9th has a monument at a New Bern cemetery where some of it's members are buried . I hope to get down there next year and pay my respects .

I had a 2x great uncle Hampton Whitehead, who was a private in the 9th NJ Infantry Regiment CO E ("Jersey Muskrats"). He was wounded at the Battle of New Bern on March 14, 1862 and died of his wounds on March 17, 1862. In all probability he is buried in an unknown grave at the New Bern National Cemetery.
