At some point they invaded Missouri and occupied St Joe and Chillicothe until union forces could occupy the area. I read that each volunteer had bring his own horse but I was wondering if anyone new what type of arms they were issued or if it was a BYO type of thing. it made for interesting reading

There was a Southern Border Brigade and a Northern Border Brigade. Disturbances in southern Iowa resulted by Southern sympathizers resulted in Iowa militia companies three times to handle this.

Not sure this will help by at the start of the War Iowa had 1,500 .69 caliber muskets and 200 rifles. In May 1861 the governor ordered 5,oo stands of arms purchased .
