Snow Dumplings, an Apple Delight

It is apple time. This is an old recipe for making a delicious apple dessert.

Snow Dumplings

Have several apples, pared and cored; wash a pint of rice, and roll the apples in it, so that rice will adhere; have ready a nice, short pie crust, wrap the apples in a piece of the dough, and roll the dumplings in rice again, and so on until you use up the apples. Put in a napkin in the steamer, place it over a pot of boiling water, and put in the dumplings; steam till done, eat with cream sauce.

Sounds delicious Donna!

I assumed the rice would absorb the apple juices and cook that way.

I was questioning the steamed pie crust, myself. Just does not sound right! But perhaps they don't mean a Chinese steamer, but some other kind that works more like an oven?
