This Library of Congress photo shows Sickles' buttons on the correct side.

This National Archives photo shows Sickles' buttons on the wrong side.

Why?

I would assume one of the images was reversed before it was posted online. The photo experts may have a better idea though.

General Sickles' regulation uniform frock coat is "double breasted." It could be buttoned over on either side.

Sickles lost his right leg at Gettysburg. If you look close you can see in both images they are not flipped/reversed.
