I recently attended an auction that included the collection of a guy that was a long-time digger. I intended to get a Confederate "I" button just to have one, but, apparently, got excited, and came home with more than one!
I have long collected firearms and various other items, but don't really know much about buttons. My question can be simply boiled down to what would be the appropriate way to care for these? I assume that the two shiny ones should be left as is and one is likely too far gone to do much of anything to it, but should I remove the dirt from the others? If so, what is the best way. What all do button collectors do to their acquisitions? I searched for other threads on the topic, but didn't find anything that seemed to be applicable. Any advice appreciated.
As a side note, I have already learned that buttons seem to be somewhat difficult to photograph with any kind of clarity!
