Slightly off topic, as it is not a book or movie...
The Centennial Comment is a (very) short story written by Robert Edmond Alter. I recently came across it and read it for the first time since I was in my early teens when I was just beginning to get into the Civil War.
After reading it again I must say it may be the best short story regarding the war I have ever read. (I'm also a big fan of Ambrose Bierce).
Part of this short story is haunting and it does as good a job as anything could to show how veterans must have felt after the war in a very short read.
I'd like to share my favorite few paragraphs, but don't want to violate copywrite.
If you haven't read it, I suggest it.
