Lee Robert E. Lee - A Hero Every Child Should Know.

The issue is that he waged war on the USA
)

That is a perspective, a northern perspective.

Lee's entire reason for siding with the CSA was to protect and defend Virginia who going to be invaded.

Both sides were waging war with each other and both sides were elected representatives of American government. To try and simplify Lee as "waging war on America" is grossly inaccurate.

How it is inaccurate?

And didn't he invade Maryland and Pennsylvania?

Wonderful find. Old books are treasures.

I agree, and if there are any illustrations et al. please post them @7th Texas Mounted Rifles . Also, if any of your other books are of this era, post them, too. I won't even grouse about the contents so much, rather, I want to see the leafing, etc. I have an old-timey replica of the Horace Porter Campaigning With Grant, and I love the sparkly gold, the shiny pages, and the satin bookmark:smile:

How is "invading" Virginia not defending the Union?

You've changed the subject entirely now. I was talking about Lee who appeared in this old book as a hero. Th reason people view him as a hero is he was a defender. I would love to see the section on him from this book.

Let me finish going through the next couple of boxes, and then i will round up some photos!

On a somewhat related note, i chased up these three early-run printings of Bruce Catton works out of the same box:

Not to mention that that other slave owner, Washington, also waged war against his country.

right up there with Benedict Arnold all children should learn one country one flag one United states.
All children should know who Benedict Arnold was. I also think they should also learn about other states, so there's a multitude of flags for you. :smile coffee:

As far as heroes go...I try to avoid that term in my classes. If we're talking Greek here then most die a tragic death. :O o:
