To the naked eye, I swore this was a Morgan & Clapp pocket pistol produced in New Haven, CT c. 1864 to 1866. However, Flayderman's shows a total estimated quantity of only 500 produced, whereas the numbering on my pistol has me confused since both the barrel, trigger and butt bear the number 3706.
M&C was a .30 caliber rimfire pistol (although a .22 caliber model was also produced but is extremely scarce) and is supposed to have a 3" octagonal barrel that pivots to the right for loading, but mine measures 3 5/8" from end to end. M&C barrels are also marked MORGAN & CLAPP NEW HAVEN CT, but this barrel is unmarked. Need help identifying, please.
