Colonel Gantt was severely wounded during Pickett's Charge. The Lt. Col.of the unit was killed by artillery just before the charge commenced, so command of the 19th Virginia fell to the major, Charles S. Peyton.

One source states that command of the 19th Virginia during Pickett's charge fell to Major William H. Pryor.
I think there is a typo in the Civil War in the East website. Major William H. Pryor served in the 3rd Virginia Infantry in Kemper's Brigade. When Kemper was wounded Colonel Joseph Mayo, commander of the 3rd Virginia took command of Kemper's Brigade while Major Pryor took command of the 3rd.
