In any venue afforded him to make a defense of his actions Pemberton always argued some form of, "to the subversion of my matured plans." (paraphrased).

So what was this mature plan that was subverted?

The May 13 plan that placed the three divisions in line south and east of Edwards?

That's why I was mortified that his apologia is missing a big chunk of text around May 12th & 13th, because the last time he expressed any sort of plan was the plan to prevent Grant from reaching Jackson by striking him as he attempted to pass. That plan was ruined by McPherson at Raymond.

Otherwise, I'm gonna assume his plan was to hunker down and pretend there weren't a half-dozen river crossings Grant could turn him with at Big Black River. 😃

Right! But the "matured plan" was the may 13 one? Nothing after that until the move to Dillon's?
