In the film Gettysburg, Ted Turner plays Colonel Patton, following Armistead's brigade in the charge. I have not dove deep into the details of the Charge to know how accurate the film depiction is, but...for one thing, Patton was much younger than Turner.
This man was the great uncle of George S. Patton III, the World War 2 commander.
His brother and George III's grandfather, George S. Sr., was Colonel of the 22nd Virginia Regiment, did not take part in the Gettysburg Campaign, but fought in West Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley, before being mortally wounded at Third Winchester.

Patton led the 7th Virginia as Colonel for just one month. He was commissioned on June 3rd, 1863. His regiment was part of General Kemper's brigade. He was struck by a shell fragment ( his lower jaw was nearly removed) as he approached the stonewall in Pickett's Charge.

Yes, he was the great uncle of old Blood and Guts. George Patton's grandfather George S. Patton was also a colonel for a Virginia regiment during the Civil War and was killed at 3rd Winchester in 1864. George S. Patton had received a promotion to brigadier general but he did not live to officially assume that rank.
