Hello everyone,

my grandfather just gave me his old spencer carbine. I was doing research online and stumbled across this forum as well as the Spencer Shooting Society and wanted to know if any one could help. I will include pictures as well but it is a M1860 Carbine SN: 3131 with matching SN on the lower and the barrel. Plus there are multiple markings on the barrel, one marking is.... F C I and the other marking is.... CO A. Any information will help.

Welcome From The Heart Of Dixie. Very Nice. If you could post a photo of the top markings (They should look like this.) and one of the lever in the down position it would be helpful. The model 1860 had a serial # run to 67000 and yours is a very early run with 3131. The CO A is going to be a Company A marking.

Beautiful piece, low seial number! Thanks for posting!

I was in the 6/6 Air Cav out of Fort Drum, NY and just got out of the Army so as an ETS present my grandfather told me he wanted me to have it because he believed it was a Civil War Calvary gun. I couldn't be happier.
Congratulations! It's a beautiful gun! Thanks for sharing it here at CivilWarTalk!

Welcome to the forums from the host of the Stonewall Jackson Forum and an occasional gun collector - you have a beautiful carbine!

First, Thanks for your service!
Second, did your grandfather acquire it from an earlier family member who served in the rebellion?

My Grandfather got it back in the 1970s. He did some work for somebody that I guess ended up not being able to pay so the guy gave him a few rifles. This was one of them and it sat in his safe since then.
