The Sea Bird was the flagship of the Confederate Navy's "Mosquito Fleet". This ship was a side-wheeler that was built in 1854 in Keyport, New Jersey. It was purchased by North Carolina in 1861. It was refitted and armed with two cannon. The majority of the men killed or captured during the battle of Elizabeth City were aboard the Seabird. It was rammed and sunk by the USS Commmodore Perry.
