1861 – 1862: Captain in 7th Virginia Cavalry Regiment

1862: In Late September, after spending time in the Old Capitol Prison, Marshall was exchanged
1862 – 1864: Lt. Colonel of 7th Virginia Cavalry Regiment
1863 - Engaged near the town of Fairfield, loosing his horse to enemy fire during the Gettysburg Campaign
1864: Served in the Battle of Trevilian Station, Virginia
1864: Wounded during the Battle of Ream's Station, Virginia
1864: Wounded during the Siege of Petersburg, Virginia
Had six horses shot out from under him during the war.
1864: Killed in Battle near Winchester, at Nineveh, Virginia on November 10th
