Civil War Career:

1861 – 1862: Captain in 7th​ Virginia Cavalry Regiment​
1861: Served as a volunteer aide to Stonewall Jackson at the First Battle of Bull Run​
1862: Captured on August 2, 1862 during the Battle of Orange Court House,​
1862: In Late September, after spending time in the Old Capitol Prison, Marshall was exchanged​
1862 – 1864: Lt. Colonel of 7th​ Virginia Cavalry Regiment​
1863 - Engaged near the town of Fairfield, loosing his horse to enemy fire during the Gettysburg Campaign​
1864: Served in the Battle of Trevilian Station, Virginia​
1864: Wounded during the Battle of Ream's Station, Virginia​
1864: Wounded during the Siege of Petersburg, Virginia​
Had six horses shot out from under him during the war.​
1864: Killed in Battle near Winchester, at Nineveh, Virginia on November 10th​

Died: November 10, 1864

Place of Death: Nineveh, Virginia

Age at time of Death: 38 years old

Burial Place: Stonewall Confederate Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia
