This recipe is from my Granny as handed down to her.

Maple Walnut Pie

9 inch pie crust
4 eggs
pinch salt
2/3 cup brown sugar
6 tablespoons butter, melted
1 cup real maple syrup
1 cup walnut pieces
Whipped cream, optional

Preheat oven to 425 degrees and prick the bottom of the pie crust. Line it with aluminum foil and fill with dried beans. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove the beans and foil. Bake another 5 minutes. Remove and set aside. Lower oven temperature to 350 degrees.

Beat eggs. Add salt, sugar, butter and syrup. Beat again. Sprinkle walnuts in pie shell. Pour in filling. Bake pie 35 to 40 minutes, or until a knife inserted halfway between edge and center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. Serve with whipped cream.

Yum, Pecans instead of Walnuts and Karo instead of Maple Syrup and that's my Pecan Recipe. Really hard to get good Walnuts or Maple Syrup in Texas, but I would love to try it.

Do you have Trader Joe's where you are in Texas? They carry a very good and relatively speaking inexpensive maple syrup under their brand. That's all we buy and we don't use other syrups.

The Trader Joe's brand is Canadian Maple Syrup and it is grade B.the bottle that it comes in IIRC is 18oz., and it really is a barging price that you will not finder cheaper anywhere.we buy it all the time.

It was amazing. Our youngest daughter who runs cross country for the local high school team and eats like 12 calories a day, ate a piece the size of a broken manhole cover. Great recipe.
