I just picked this up off of Craigslist. So what's the story with Kirschbaum swords? Did the North use them? Or did they go Souther?

I may get this one re-wrapped. And it would be awesome if the brass wire can be reused.

Google "Civil War Restoration" Tom Nardi. Very professional job on rewraps and yes he will use the same wire. Ask him to age the leather if you want. Price is low I feel and worth it. He did a Rev War blade for me and I asked him to age it to the sword. I was shocked on how good it looks and added over $1000-1500 to the value of the sword. Nobody will know especially when I'm gone on the restoration.

Your sword was made prior to the CW by CR Kirschbaum, Solingen Prussia. These swords were imported and were supplied to state and local militia units, and were not Federal inspected and saw extensive use by both sides during the war. Tom does good work but with it being an import and not US made there is no way to tell if it saw service during the CW, therefore I would not wastes the money on having it restored as it will not add all that much value to the piece.

But restoring it will make it a whole lot prettier :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :smile coffee:
