Lucky me picked this up at Auction for just $350. When I called to pay the Owner said he delayed dropping the hammer for he was shocked it went so low. The scabbard appears to have been made in Germany since Jurman was a maker at Solingen. Also dated 1860. In Thillmann book on Cavalry Sabers page 414-418 apparently Tiffany imported just short of 12,500 here from 1860-1861 that were used early in the war. A mixture of them being made in Britain or Germany. Was in Miami recently and the Wife and Daughter wanted to stop by the Tiffany Store (yup 30 year wedding anniversary, my gift is a sword and Moore revolver that I paid for and hers a purse that cost 3 times as much that I paid for!). Knowing me I always mess with the female sales folks by telling them they work for a War Profiteer. Well this time the salesman was a male and older than me. So I go "where is the sword showcase?". To my shock and his credit he knew all about Tiffany's history from the beginning. We got into a nice conversation about their ACW swords and how I own three of them. Life is full of surprises!
