Hello, I started my account here when my family was stationed in New Mexico, but now are here in Central Georgia. I'm looking to meet up with any reenactors or units in this area.
I've never re-enacted before and have some general questions, the fellas I spoke with back in New Mexico were very helpful, but knew I was moving away.

Union or Confederate? Check this out, this battalion comes down to Olustee every year and I've gotten to know some of them. They all seem like a good bunch. Primarily CS units but they do galvanize and go US at some events. https://www.georgiavolunteerbattalion.org/

The 16th is a great looking bunch, they are also part of the Georgia Battalion and I see them at Olustee every year and I've also run into them at an event in New York. Another unit part of the Georgia Battalion I know some of the guys is https://www.facebook.com/61stGAInfantry/ The 61st is based in North Georgia not sure what part of Georgia the 16th is based out of, I'm sure @lelliott19 knows. There is also a member here that's a Georgia reenactor I've met at Olustee a couple times @jekct1212 I believe he's in the 12th Georgia also based out of North Georgia I believe. I haven't seen him around lately so not sure if he's still a member but maybe a PM might reach him.

It's awesome you've chosen to be a reenactor! We always need more in the community.

first you will have to decide if you want to do Union or Confederate. Then what i would do is see if you can do one event w/ them to see how you like the people in your unit. some are better then others and you need one that works best for you. i know that some units up here if your a married or w/ kids they cant stay w/ you in your tent.

We need to back up a bit here...are you looking for "Family oriented mainstream", or "Campaigner Authentic" mentality CS/US units?
I'm seeing an awful lot of mediocre mainstream uniform/hat types pictured, not much in the quality Authentic crowd.

Honestly I don't know much about any of it, so I'm attempting to learn and choose the right path. I have an active family with younger kids so I'm going to reach out soon and see what avenue I can try.

Psst, hey buddy, want to check out the GOOD STUFF?

Try live fire competition with the North South Skirmish Association. You can shoot that musket with real minies on a firing line with lots of other guys. If you really want the red pill, we even shoot cannons with live ammo for score.
