I have not researched my family before re CW. I went to the pinned links and put in his name and nothing came up. Does that pretty much prove he did not serve or should I look elsewhere? He was born in 1847 so may not have served.

With enough information, I suspect some of the guys here could help you. There are all kinds of ifs and buts in doing this, but without basic info to try, I doubt we can give you much of an answer.

That could be him. I have I think the same guy in census before and after the war. But, I did not find him in 2 databases for CSA

Attached is Albert Howell Blackburn's Death Certificate. Not sure if this is yours, but the dates make sense.

If you go to familysearch.org and put in Albert Blackburn born 1845-1847 in Tennessee, I think you'll find what you are looking for.

He is buried in the cemetery near where I grew up and I never knew it. He was a shop foreman with the railroad. Every male relative of mine since the 1800s worked there until my generation.
