Hello everyone, I was recently looking into my family tree and I found I had a 4x great grandfather who died in 1865. His name was George Phillip Vernon, he was born in 1832 in Tennessee . I tried to find more info about him and I found one site that says he was killed in the civil war but it doesn't give any other information. Any info y'all might be able to dig up would be greatly appreciated

I did a quick glance on Fold 3, only seeing a George Vernon that served with 3rd NC Regiment. There's a handful of files for a George W, but don't specifically see a George 'Phillip' or anything with his first two initials. Some others may come along who might find something after a search dig.

There is a George P. Vernon listed as a private in the Jeff Davis Legion, Mississippi Cavalry.

Here's the record of the George P. Vernon. Enlisted in Co. C, Jeff Davis Legion, Mississippi Cavalry in 1863. Absent sick and by the close of 1863 listed as A.W.O.L. from July 12, 1863, and through 1864. No record from 1865.

This other thread might have useful info if this is your George Vernon-

More men died in the Civil War from disease than from combat.

Do you have any idea what county or town he might have been born or lived in TN?

Born in Tennessee c.1832. On 1850 census living in Kemper, Miss. Two younger sisters and widowed mother (Sue). 1860 in Noxubee, Miss. same situation. Indications that he died c.1864.

Father was Samuel Vernon 1797-1848, born in Wrightsboro, GA.
