Looking for authentic kepi

hello everyone,

I'm in the market for an authentic civil war kepi. I was hoping for some recommendations as I don't want to get something fake. I was looking at the one below:

https://tortugatrading.com/products/civil-war-union-infantry-kepi-968-militaria

Any thoughts? I'd love some recommendations on where else to looo. The seem scarce. A plus would
bE anything connected to Ohio.

Thanks you!

No joy there, kepi is post war, brim is too thick and the crown height is too low, it appears to be a nice IW kepi. Dave Taylor has a nice I'd Union forage cap that would be a nice acquisition. Try Googling Dave Taylor's Civil War Antiques. His listing just came out today with the cap.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I saw that one from DavE. I called one hour after the list posted and it was sold! Where else can I look? I;m really hoping to find one. Thank you all!

Call or email Dave T and let him know what you are looking for; you could also go to the Mansfield Show this coming weekend, if you are in Ohio.

You might also try civilwardealers.com and look at those who sell cloth/uniforms

I have seen the kepis on Tortuga Trading as well but they are all post war and way too high priced. I would love to have the 7th New York kepi to go with my fatigue uniform but I'm not willing to pay $2000+ for it. The site is owned and ran by the "EXPERT" from Pawn Stars, Sean Rich.

Well, i'm Striking out. Haven't heard anything from Dave and can't seem to find anything for sale online otherwise, any recommendations would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. You should contact the Horse Soldier Antique Shop in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. I have dealt with these fine folks for many years and they certainly are a very reputable business. David.

That price is not too far off of the norm since it is identified. The one Horse Soldier had was a great price, I tried to get it myself but somebody beat me to it. Dirty Billy has some brief info on the differences but I recommend picking up some books. Dirty Billy's info is here:

There was also a great thread here:

Shiloh Relics is a great place to buy from. Rafael Eledge owns it and is the Civil War expert on Antiques Roadshow so I have no questions on authenticity from him. Good luck with your hunt.
