Hello collectors,

Here is my current collection of the Civil War Union cavalry. I will post details of the items in future posts over the next few days. It took me a long time to find some of these historical items, and I am still looking. I need to find the correct kepi next.

I also collect uniforms and equipment from the Indian War period, but I will not be posting them since this is just the American Civil War.

I certainly don't think anyone will be offended by seeing your Indian War period stuff too, I think the folks here would enjoy seeing it. You can always post just about anything non CW in the Campfire Chat forum as well.

Would it be allowed in the uniform section instead? As I'm new, I'm still learning the forum.
Thank you for your time.

Personally I think you could add your IW stuff to this thread as part of your collection, don't think anyone would mind and think most would like seeing them. Or you could post your IW stuff in a thread in the Camfire Chat forum. You can talk about anything over there short of modern politics. That's a beautiful jacket by the way.

I will include it here so we can compare and see the differences in uniforms and equipment. Here are just a few pictures of my "Indian War" cavalry collection. I will post more (and details) after I am through with my Civil War Union cavalry collection, so I will not be confusing.

Because that is what I had at the time I took the picture. Also, during the Indian Wars, old was worn with new. Before 1870, you will see some Civil War uniforms.
I think they used them right up to the 20th century but when they added more enlisted sabers to the inventory in 1906 it was the 1860 with an iron hilt instead of brass. I was wondering if the 1840 was correct to a particular unit, time period and location during the IW period. So what is stamped on both swords and what is the year of your trap door carbine?

My trapdoor is the 1884 model. The vintage picture I posted was in the mid-1880s to late 1880s. They carry the 1884 Model trapdoor. I can tell by the rear sight. Also, this picture is a good example of where "old stock" was worn with "new stock"—some wear 1880s belt and belt buckle and some wear 1870s belt and belt buckles.

Please let me finish the Civil War collection first ( you will like it), and then let us discuss the Indian War.

Robert
