Hello collectors,

Here is my current collection of the Civil War Union cavalry. I will post details of the items in future posts over the next few days. It took me a long time to find some of these historical items, and I am still looking. I need to find the correct kepi next.

I also collect uniforms and equipment from the Indian War period, but I will not be posting them since this is just the American Civil War.

Very impressive collection. I'm new to this and learning. My GGF was a member of the 23rd Indiana Foot Volunteers Co. G., 1861-1865. He mustered in as a Captain and upon discharge, he was promoted to Major. Is this the type uniform that he would have had as a Union soldier? He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Raymond, May 12, 1863 by the 7th Texas Calvary. What type of field uniform would he have had and what would the captors have put him in? Have always wondered that. He was released from Libby Prison, Richmond, VA., as the CW ended. Your collection is one of the best that I've ever seen. Impressive. Thank you for sharing. Tommy

Civil War collection: Details of the pants.

Civil War era mounted cavalry pants are extremely rare. It is stamped "S.A." (Schuylkill Arsenal)

So these trousers are actually enlisted converted to officer's wear, what does the hem look like, did he get a cotton or canvas liner?
