Howdy folks , Recently bought a 15 inch knife with a bone handle and it says 1861 and a few other things... I'd like to show this knife to know more about it.... Thank you for help you folks can give me!

The knife is old the markings are not. Someone has taken and old knife and added the markings.
 
Sad, destroyed the blade with the silly fake stamped markings. Well at least it's not stamped 1862 since for some reason Fakers love that date. Hope you didn't spend a lot or you can go get your money back.

Marked to a Captain no less. Wonder who got the one marked to a General?
that was my immediate thought upon seeing the pics...that the blade and fasteners were too modern, and the marks were way too fresh
Its a shame some people have too be duplicitous If they put their efforts to normal pursuits they would do fine
