Is This A Civil War Button?

Believe it or not I found this button washed up on a Lake Erie beach about 30 minutes west of Cleveland, OH. I'm curious to find out what time period it belonged to. I'm hoping it's civil war era. It's missing the back piece.

What does the back look like. It is a US Navy button but this pattern was used for a long time.

These buttons were patterned after the U.S. Navy version but these were used on civilian coats and jackets well into the 20th century. They were very popular.
