Inheritance rifle

If that were my family, my grandfather's grandfather was born in 1799 which would probably be about right to be the original owner. If it started life as a flintlock it might date back to the early 1800's. It was probably converted to percussion in the 1830's or 1840's. Where did the grandfather's grandfather live? That might give an idea of where the rifle was made.

Everyone was northern Georgia near foothills . That's where all of them lived.
 
I can't make out this what might be a makers mark on top of the barrel
