Lets go back to 1988.......the125th reenactment of Gettysburg.....Pickett's Charge. The event was one I will never forget.At the end of the charge, a lone bugler atop a scaffold for taping the event began to blow "taps". At that moment all soldiers both North and South stopped and took their hats off and bowed their heads. The whole field became silent. It was the most beautiful thing I have seen in a long time. Now its 2006......... the event on Long Island is at an end. Then a lone bugler in the distant played "taps" and again all soldiers stopped, hats off and heads bowed. To see both representatives of North and South take time in unity to honor those who gave their lives for their beliefs .... even 20 years timespan between two events makes my head spin. I am privileged to know those here on this message board that reenact. I'm very proud to be a member of this group, even though I don't personally reenact. God Bless you all. (getting misty)

I see it is my personal duty to reenact the American Civil War its just a hobby thats worth all the while. I give all my fellow comrades a pat on the back.

To add to the "tear glazed eyes" here...
All of us got a lump in our throat and a tear in our eye when Stonewall Jackson gave his famous rallying of the troops speech at the First Bull Run reenactment this past weekend.
WOW! There was a lot of hairs on the backs of many a neck standing up at that! And considering this was our first National event, it was made all the more special. DH could hardly contain himself when talking about his orders to "hug the hubs" so the troops could march thru the artillery line!
And this is a man that thought the birth of his two sons, was (and I quote)
'Kinda like skinning a deer'!!!!
