In the Field How practical was Maynard type priming tapes for handguns?

We have heard about Maynard priming tapes for long arms, but not so much about the system's use in handguns. I take it the same issues were found.

It was the same system and had the same issues. A little moisture and you will have to wait till they get close enough so you can hit them with it.

My brothers & I were told to go play outside because of the stink from our cap pistols. They concept worked well enough in that instance.

The irony is they solved the issue by moving to a type of tin foil instead of paper but it was too late and the M1861 was already in the works and cheaper as well.
